A way to prevent uploading into root level?

I have a folder with 5 subfolders for users in our company to upload multimedia materials. I have the main folder set to not allow uploads while the individual sub-folders do allow uploads.

However, people can still upload to the main folder (which puts random files at the root level of the folder and not sorted into the individual folders.)

Is there a way to hide the “Add file(s)” button so that users are forced to navigate into the sub-folders before uploading content?

Also, even though I have set the widget prefs to not allow downloads, people still see the download link in the widget.

Please look into your permission setup. What you are trying to do is
possible and being done by many customers. Please keep in mind that
read/write permission does allow upload, only read-only does not allow
upload.

I would be interested to learn how people are doing this. I’ve tried several combos to get the main folder widget to display the sub-folders without showing the “add files” button while at the same time allowing users to add files into the sub folders.

If the main folder is set to READ/WRITE and allow uploading while the folder widget itself is set to not allow uploading I get no add file button on either the main folder or its subfolders, even if I have the sub folders set to READ/WRITE and allow uploading.

If I turn on uploading in the main folder widget but set the main folder sharing and permissions to READ only and disallow uploading, people can still upload.

So it seems like the widget ignores the settings for the folder. And since the subfolders don’t actually have a widget, there is no way to set them to allow for uploading.

Maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way but essentially, what I need to do is the have a widget that displays several sub-folders but no “add files” button until the user has selected a sub-folder.

All your examples are for a widget right? If so, a widget is independent of
any folder setting or permissions. There is a setting “allow upload” for
each widget. If that is turned on than upload is activated. Same applies
for shared folders.

I was beginning to gather that the widget ignored the folder settings. My challenge is that people are uploading into the root folder and not the sub-folders.

So, many of the uploads are not getting properly categorized. Is there no way to hide the “add files” button on the root level and only show it once they have drilled into the sub-folders?

Unfortunately, there is no such function available.
